10 Bafflingly High IMDb Movie Ratings You Won't Believe
6. The Matrix Reloaded
IMDb Rating: 7.2 The Matrix was one of the first mega-hits in the IMDb's lifetime, with the movie dominating the early years of the website - check out any reviews from 1999-2002 and you'll probably find some comparison to The Wachowski's time capsule in there. Thus the double-whammy sequels were a major event in the early days of the site. And, as often happens with sequels to the current "best thing ever", the immediate reaction was grossly exaggerated - flaws were overlooked and aimless meandering was mistaken for deep philosophy as dissatisfaction took its time to set in. That's the only way to explain this stupidly high score - the original overborn reaction skews the rating. The Matrix Reloaded is a bad movie. Not as terrible as The Matrix Revolutions, which slips completely into self-parody by its third act, but a muddled mess and perfect example of how less is more. Both sequels have the unintended effect of retroactively making the original that much better by highlighting how easily it could have made fatal mistakes, which is something no follow-up really wants to do.
