10 Banned Video Nasties That Were Actually Pretty Tame

6. Don't Go In the Woods Alone! (1980)

dont go in the woods 1-600x300 Another one of our lovely Dont! movies that proved so popular with the censors at the time of the Video Nasty panic, Don't Go In The Woods marks a nadir in the stalk and slash genre. Tame in that it lacks any decent frights or gore set pieces, Don't Go In The Woods is also incompetently scripted and directed. It is so boring, it will fail to engage you in any level at all. Plot: hairy bloke in woods killing people. Okay, perhaps the director had no budget, but this is no excuse for this crock of crap. I'm sure Herschell Gordon Lewis had a similar budget and he made Blood Feast - a film that shaped an entire genre and still packs a punch to this day. Blood Feast isn't on this list, is it? It is such a shame that this film ended up in the DPP 72 list as it has afforded it a cult status that it surely does not deserve, which allows it to stand beside the likes of the majestic Cannibal Holocaust.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
