There are many forms of immortality, and in the DC Extended Universe, Ra's Al Ghul should possess it in a more literal sense than his Nolanverse counterpart.

Although Liam Neeson excelled as the League of Shadows leader, there is decades' worth of deep mythology for future Batman movies to delve into with this character.

Pitting the Caped Crusader against a villain who has literally been around for centuries and has the battle knowledge to prove it would up the stakes, and adding the life-giving Lazarus Pits to the equation would be a fan-pleasing nod to the source material.

There's a lot of merit in reinvention from the ground up, as Nolan did with Ra's, but there are also times when a faithful adaptation works well, especially when it comes to characters who have never appeared in cinema in traditional form.

As for who could succeed Neeson at the head of the League, Israeli actor Oded Fehr, who recently appeared in TV's 24: Legacy, would bring the necessary authority and shadowy menace to the role.

Not only would would this casting pay homage to the character's Middle Eastern roots, Fehr voiced Ra's in the Young Justice animation and was a solid fit for the part.
