10 Beautiful Horror Films Of The 2010s
7. The Witch (2016)
The Witch blends horror with family drama, as Hereditary recently perfected, showing the destruction of a 17th century New England family, who settle near a dark and leafless forest, with evil dwelling inside.
Without the use of guts and gore, and with no significant jump scares, director Robert Eggers created a torturous film detailing the lives of those who come across the occult by accident. Many of the films on this list earned their place because of amazing camera work, stunning imagery and striking visual cues.
On the other hand, this masterpiece earns its place for its ability to make witchcraft and spirituality appear almost as a historical fact. The set design and keen attention to detail make the small farmhouse and surrounding land seem as if it was ripped from a history book.
What you might call dark beauty doesn't occur more than a few times throughout the film, with (spoiler alert), a goat being milked of dark red blood, and a witch slowly creeping out from her forest hovel to seduce a young boy.
The imagery certainly isn't as impactful as other films on this list, but it works when paired with some great acting performances from Anya Taylor Joy and Ralph Ineson.
