10 Beautiful Horror Films Of The 2010s
6. Under The Skin (2014)
Under the Skin follows an otherworldly, attractive woman who preys on the lives of roadside men on her travel through Scotland.
On the surface, the film is essentially about the temptress's ability to ensnare men, strip them of their humanity and soul, leaving them never to be found again. So for all of you thinking this is a great opportunity for some titillation, you were badly off the scent.
It is a somber and torturous film that slowly creeps into your mind, leaving you transfixed by the end. The black mass pools and dense forestry alone provide imagery that immerses you in the world you are watching. There is something to be said about Scarlett Johannsson's performance and the accompanying music that gives the locations seen a seductive and despairing aura.
The real beauty of a film isn't always in the specific imagery, sometimes it emanates from elsewhere, often in the music and the performances. Under the Skin provides the whole package, and while some couldn't get behind the films artsy nature, for those in the mood, it hits the mark perfectly.
