10 Beloved Movie Legacies At Risk Of Being Ruined Forever
8. The Naked Gun
The original Naked Gun trilogy, led by the one and only Leslie Nielsen, holds a special place in my people's hearts.
The Naked Gun films were silly, slapstick, and downright ridiculous in every sense of the word as Nielsen's clumsy and equally clueless detective Frank Drebin attempts to solve the most incomprehensible crimes.
2025's The Naked Gun releases on August 1st, so it's just around the corner, and if the trailers are anything to go by, the spirit of the franchise looks to be in good hands. The film features a strong cast consisting of Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, and CCH Pounder.
Neeson will play the role of Drebin's son, who rather fittingly goes by Frank Drebin Jr., and that casting will have undoubtedly taken many by surprise due to Neeson's history of serious roles within high-octane action and heavy-hitting dramas.
With that said, the Academy Award nominee has shown on more than one occasion that he has a real knack for comedy. So, all in all, Liam Neeson feels like the perfect man to carry the mantle of the Naked Gun franchise for a new generation of cinema goers.
We'll find out soon enough, but one thing to consider is whether the franchise's sense of humour will translate with modern audiences; will the same style of jokes land in 2025 like they did in 1994? The film looks promising, though looks can be deceiving - so let's hope that's not the case here.
