10 Best & 10 Worst Horror Movies Coming In 2017
Plenty of chillers and some disappointing fillers.
This year has been a funny one when it comes to horror. While we’ve had some more than worthy offerings – like critic’s favourite The Witch, sort of spinoff 10 Cloverfield Lane and Korean horror-thriller The Wailing – there’s also been stinkers of the magnitude of that pointless Cabin Fever remake, silly ‘scary doll’ flick The Boy and boring Kevin Bacon fronted vehicle The Darkness.
But then, maybe it’s to be expected. Horror is a tricky genre and striking the right balance between shocks, scares and actual storyline is difficult to master, not to mention it’s made even harder by the fact that what appeals to one horror fan might not to another. A slow-burner like The Witch, for example, won’t appeal so much to someone with more of a leaning towards instantly gratifying gore.
Next year’s splattering of horror movies seem to be afflicted by the same sort of issues and for every potentially promising film there’s another terrible B-movie quality horror ready to be spat out by Hollywood. But luckily, we’ve rifled through the best and worst of next year’s upcoming horrors so the discerning fan can make an informed decision on what’s actually worth watching.
First up, the movies you might want to sidestep followed by the horrors you’ll definitely want to make a point of seeing.
