1. We Are Still Here

RT Rating: 95% It took a lot for anything to beat It Follows, but this low-budget horror from Ted Geoghegan takes the 2015 crown with its clever script and premise and its loving homages to the work of Lucio Fulci. Though it's dipped in nostalgia and consciously meant to feel old, the film offers a fresh take on the tried and tested haunted house formula, as the central couple move into a former funeral home to try and get over the death of their son. Big mistake; the house is cursed and must feed on death every 30 years so the locals engineer ways to keep it from getting hangry. It's gory and ludicrous, escalating from a more considered starting point, and it ends up being as entertaining and compelling as it is brutal. And now on to the stinkers...
