Kathryn Bigelow's follow-up to The Hurt Locker may not have scooped the same level of Oscar success, but it's nevertheless a taut, incredibly well-directed and acted docudrama depicting the events of Osama Bin Laden's assassination.

Jessica Chastain gives one of the best performances of the last decade as CIA analyst Maya, while Mark Boal's script bravely refuses to shy away from shining a light on the U.S.' controversial "enhanced interrogation" techniques.

The entire ensemble cast, including Mark Strong, James Gandolfini, Jason Clarke, Jennifer Ehle and even Chris Pratt, are excellent in one of the most convincing real-life dramatisations of recent years.

Taking an iconic, highly emotional event and translating it to the screen without crass flag-waving or embellishment, Bigelow once again proved why she's one of the best filmmakers working today.
