3. Adelaide Is The Doppelganger - Us

Jordan Peele's Us isn't without its flaws and gripes, but it nevertheless drops a belter of a reveal in the final stretch, when we learn that protagonist Adelaide (Lupita Nyong'o) isn't quite who we think she is.

At the start of the film, we see that a young Adelaide once entered a funhouse, where she met a doppelgänger of herself and suddenly stopped speaking for a while, presumably due to suffering PTSD from the incident.

But the film's final rug-pull reveals that everything isn't as it seems. In fact, that fateful night saw the real Adelaide strangled unconscious by her doppelgänger, Red, who left Adelaide underground with the other clones while taking her place as "Adelaide" above ground.

This also explains both why "Red" has a raspy voice and why not-Adelaide as a child stopped speaking - Adelaide-as-Red had her vocal chords damaged by being strangled, while Red-as-Adelaide simply didn't know how to speak.

In one of the film's telling final moments, Adelaide's son Jason (Evan Alex) stares intently at his not-mother, evidently having realised the truth, his young mind categorically blown that the person who raised him isn't really Adelaide at all.
