10 Best "Everything You Know Is A Lie" Moments In Sci-Fi Movies

4. He’s Not The Messiah - Blade Runner 2049

The "Chosen One" arc in movies has become such a cliché that it barely even registers amongst cinemagoers anymore. This is why Denis Villeneuve, director of both Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, decided to completely flip the convention on its head during the latter.

We spend most of the sequel to Ridley Scott's masterpiece believing that K, a replicant played by Ryan Gosling, is special. Even K himself thinks so, as he thinks that he is the long-lost kid of the first movie's hero Rick Deckard.

Rather embarrassingly for K, he later learns that the child in question is a girl. Whoops.

Whilst a total bummer for Gosling, this is great for the audience. After decades of it being exceedingly obvious who the messiah is, it was refreshing to see a story where the main character is just a regular person.

If you think that K was just being arrogant in assuming he was Deckard's son, then just remember that he had over a century of movies that followed the same pattern.

Also, if you thought there was a chance that Harrison Ford was your dad, you'd take it too.
