3. It’s People! - Soylent Green

We've got three absolute humdingers coming up for you now, so let's dive in with this stomach-churning twist from 1973.

In the far flung future of *checks notes* 2022, mankind is facing numerous crises. Overpopulation, climate change, food shortage. This is the movie Soylent Green, just in case you were confusing it for the real world.

Whilst the rich and powerful live it up in comfy apartments, the poor must contend with eating nothing but the products of the Soylent corporation; Soylent Red, Soylent Yellow, and the new and tasty Soylent Green.

Charlton Heston plays a police officer investigating the murder of a Soylent board member. The case takes him all over New York City, until he eventually finds himself at a Soylent factory. There, he discovers the horrifying truth behind Soylent Green - it's made of human corpses!

But you knew that already.

This twist is probably more famous than the movie itself. Heston's iconic yells of "Soylent Green is people!" to end the film is the stuff of legend, but the rest of the movie has been somewhat lost to time.

What a shame.
