10 Best Accidental Horror Movies
8. The Black Cauldron
Time to move from one traumatising children's film to another. The Black Cauldron is more infamous than anything else, as it has always felt like an outlier in the Disney line-up. It even gained a horrid reputation for almost ruining the studio, and a significant reason for this lack of success was how terrifying it was.
The story follows a young boy named Taran as he, his trusty pet pig, and a collection of other misfits quest to find the titular Cauldron before the evil Horned King uses it to raise an army of the dead and bring the world to bondage.
Despite being a Disney movie aimed at children, the gothic villain, spooky atmosphere and focus on violence took it from a charming animation to downright horror. It's only kept out of the genre entirely thanks to the focus on adventure and fantasy, as the zombie creatures, Horned King and character death would fit right at home on Shudder.
What's even more terrifying is that the version fans got to see was allegedly toned down from the original cut. If this is what made it to the screen, what horrifying sights didn't? Thankfully, the movie has attained a cult following due to the imaginative world, stunning animation and controversial reputation, allowing it to remain alive, despite the efforts of Disney.
