10 Best Accidental Horror Movies

7. The Passion Of The Christ

Marathon Man
Newmarket Films

Whatever your religious beliefs are, there is always a benefit to watching a movie about Jesus Christ, as at the very least you'll usually get a powerful experience about being good to people, loving your neighbour, and caring about something other than yourself. Of course, that's so long as you're not watching The Passion of the Christ.

It seems like Mel Gibson's mission here wasn't to give viewers something enlightening but rather a horror gore flick disguised as something spiritual. Passion tells the story of the final twelve hours in the life of Jesus, as he is tortured, beaten, broken and finally crucified.

The movie is full of gore, to the extent that even an avid Saw watcher might blush. Seeing the titular character stripped, whipped and abused to a bloody pulp takes up most of the runtime, and it's truly disturbing to witness.

While movies like Hostel and Saw are criticised for focusing on gory shock value, they're at least open about their horror movie stamps. Passion instead tries to present itself as a powerful and emotional tale about the famous icon but instead gives you a final product that's more akin to a splatter flick.
