10 Best Accidental Horror Movies
6. The Cable Guy
A lonely and unstable cable guy performs a job for a young architect and starts obsessing over him. Soon, he stalks him and attempts to force himself into the client's life, ultimately leading to a dramatic clash filled with home invasion, threat and paranoia.
There's no way you'd know upon reading the description that this isn't a horror flick, but rather a Jim Carrey led comedy movie.
The Cable Guy is notorious for breaking the winning streak that Carrey was on in the mid-90s, as it was a significant commercial disappointment. While it would hardly ruin his career, it certainly did show that not all his movies were winners. A lot of the criticism thrown it's way came down to how dark, depressing and frightening it was.
Despite its status as a comedy, the movie delves into some genuinely terrifying ideas and explores them through a macabre visual style. Heavy shadows, some demonic faces from Carrey and a borderline uncomfortable feeling all come together to make this film more creepy than funny.
It still works great as a comedy, just one that accidentally strayed too far into its dark side.
