7. Return Of The Falcon - Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Based on the healthy box office returns of Jurassic World, Terminator Genisys and Mad Max: Fury Road, nostalgia was in great supply at the multiplex during 2015. Obviously, nothing compared to the record-annihilating success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which based on a worldwide gross that is rapidly approaching $1.9bn managed to please fans of the franchise whether they be old, young or entirely new. While the movie features no shortage of epic action, the most memorable is the return to the big screen of the Millennium Falcon, with the battered old ship still proving a force (ha!) to be reckoned with. The sequence perfectly sums up The Force Awakens as a whole, combining both the old and new aspects of the franchise in having new characters take charge of one of the original trilogy's most beloved creations, while also keeping up the series' penchant for high speed dogfights. With Rey piloting and Finn manning the weapons, the Falcon evades the First Order's TIE fighters in a thrilling aerial battle that sees JJ Abrams' reveling in the spectacle of it all, the camera swooping in almost every possible direction as John Williams' score swells in the background.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
