10 Best Andy Serkis Performances

Whilst many would disagree and place the previous entry at the top of this list, Caeser is the best performance that Serkis has ever delivered and deserves this position. His development across the Planet of the Apes series is phenomenal, and it is astonishing to think how Serkis managed to turn a barely speaking ape into a series protagonist.

As an audience we get to see him evolve from the minute he is born to the end of his story. He transitions from a confused young animal, to an intelligent revolutionary and finally a decorated leader and father. The journey that Caeser took throughout this trilogy is the best character arc Serkis has ever had to sink his teeth into.

One of the biggest successes with the performance was how Serkis infused such persona into the role. Whilst many other actors would have been consumed with focussing on making Caeser feel like a realistic ape, Serkis was able to do this whilst still carving out identity for the character. Caeser was flawed and tortured, but ultimately you knew his morality and power.

Although Caeser was mostly a physical role, he gets dialogue where he needs it. Serkis choice of vocal quality and delivery makes all of these moments feel validated and important. When the ape speaks, it's with real purpose and drive.

For all of these reasons, the war hero and visionary character has to be the greatest achievement in the career of this decorated performer.
