10 Best Animated Film Musical Numbers

5. Under The Sea €“ The Little Mermaid (Disney) http://youtu.be/jgA2xo0HYrE Under The Sea is probably one of Disney€™s catchiest and most memorable musical numbers.Composed of thoroughly addictive calypso style beats and melodies complete with Caribbean steel drums, Sebastian really does make a plausible case for life in the ocean. Disney often presents characters that are motivated by ideas that are literally above their station. Ariel is a prime example of this reoccurring theme. If you ever lived in a small town, you may know what it€™s like to feel as though you€™re suffocating, drowning in the lack of excitement. I can€™t think of a more literal metaphor for this notion than being completely immersed in salt water. Even though Sebastian€™s case is almost airtight (you can€™t deny that it€™d be sweet to live in a world full of fish that can play musical instruments), we can€™t help but sense a vague bitter-sweetness, as we already know of Ariel€™s yearning for the land. It€™s another example of smart, subtle composition from Disney€™s finest.
