10 Best Animated Movies Of The 2010s (That Aren't Disney Or Pixar)

9. Ernest And Celestine

While a lot of modern animated films and, in particular television shows, are full zaps and screeches, neon lights and pounding EDM at every opportunity, Ernest and Celestine is the exact opposite. Look, there€™s nothing wrong with zaps and neon lights, it can be fun and exciting while it lasts but ultimately it can be unfulfilling. It€™s like the difference between fast food and home cooked meals, yes, that quarter pounder and coke will satisfy you there and then but it won€™t do as much for you as Sunday lunch with you mum. Ernest and Celestine gently invites you into the world of bears and mice who live separate from one another. It follows the story of Celestine, an orphan mouse, and Ernest, a grouchy and hungry bear. The friendship that blossoms between them is heart-warming and charming as the two try break down the staunch barriers between bears and the mice that have existed since creation. Filled with a watercolour aesthetic and frankly quite lovely sound effects Ernest and Celestine is, and I know I sound like a colossal dingus for using this phrase, full of understated beauty. With Forest Whitaker and Mackenzie Foy in the English translated version Ernest and Celestine may well have been the cosiest movie made in the past few years. If you liked this movie or French stylings then I€™d also recommend The Illusionist and The Triplets of Bellville for your sincerest pleasure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyU-mSUOnSs
