8. Big Hero 6
Big Hero 6 is one of the more recent additions to the list of animated Sci-Fi movies.
Taking place in the fictional San Fransokyo (get it?), Big Hero 6 was essentially Disney's way of dipping their toe into the superhero genre by making their own hero. An interesting premise, and one which fully delivered on its potential.
Again, Disney's knack for presenting just about anything as a lovable companion paid off in spades, despite the apparent total lack of effort in terms of character design.
A big white blob that's a robot superhero? It shouldn't work, and yet it does.
It was a hit with critics, and a hit with fans. It also sports an incredibly catchy theme song by Fall Out Boy, which is an accolade not afforded to many children's films.
