10 Best Avenger Actor Team-Ups Outside Of The MCU

8. The Martian - Stan And Wong

2015's The Martian has one of the best casting choices of any movie. With Matt Damon leading the project, and Chiwetel Ejiofor bringing up the rear as support, it's easy to forget the others who were involved. Like Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Donald Glover, Michael Pena, Benedict Wong, and Kristen Wiig.

And you know what all of them have in common? They've all appeared (or are about to appear) in comic book movies. Only two of which feature in MCU Avengers movies, though.

Sebastian Stan, who has been playing Bucky Barnes, Captain America's bionic-armed old army frenemy, stars as astronaut Chris Beck. And Benedict Wong, who's typically seen at Doctor Strange's side in the MCU, plays Bruce Ng, director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

While the story is of course centred around Matt Damon's Mark Watney and his incredible attempts to survive alone on Mars, the supporting cast really hold the film together. Stan portrays a flight surgeon who is part of Watney's original team. Throughout the movie, he gets a lovely romantic subplot with Kate Mara's character, truly shining in the smaller, quieter moments. While Wong flexes his dry humour as the man charged with building the payloads for the rescue mission.

It certainly must be difficult for anyone to shine while Matt Damon is stealing the spotlight for 85% of the film, but this cast manages to hold their own, particularly Stan's intimate performance, and Wong's snappy charm.

Michael Barnes hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
