7. Kong: Skull Island - Jackson, Hiddleston, And Larson

Wind River Jeremy Renner Elizabeth Olsen

So, before bagging the role of Loki, Tom Hiddleston auditioned for Thor, and was recently rumoured to be in the running for the role of James Bond. It seems like the guy really wants to land a leading action man position. But, for many, Hiddleston is nothing more than the weaselly God of Mischief, Loki, and could never suit one of those roles. Well, people should consider his performance as James Conrad in 2017's Kong: Skull Island as his audition for that kind of part.

Yep, skinny, greasy little Loki is nowhere to be seen as Hiddleston turns in a strong, heroic performance akin to Chris Pratt's Owen Grady from the Jurassic World films. As a former SAS captain, he's shooting assault rifles, hurling grenades, and even slices up monsters with a machete. He's everything Loki isn't - but hey, that's acting, I suppose.

Alongside Captain Conrad, there's Samuel L. Jackson as Lieutenant Colonel Preston Packard, and Brie Larson as anti-war photographer and investigative journalist Mason Weaver. The three are part of an expedition to the mysterious Skull Island in search of the impossible, and it finds them when King Kong starts yanking helicopters from the sky.

The three each play off each other well, with Larson being the emotional and empathetical core, Hiddleston the man with no allegiances but a conscious, and Jackson's character being at war for too long, and needing the fight. While at its core, the movie is a straight laced monster movie, the conflict between the characters over whether to challenge the King or not, makes for some great drama in amongst all the creature encounters. And as per usual, Jackson turns in one hell of a performance.
