Who wouldve bet in advance that the best spy-based action movie of 2015 wouldnt be Spectre or The Man From U.N.C.L.E.? Not this writer, certainly. Its true, though Kingsman: The Secret Service is a triumph, not least for presenting all the gleeful wish fulfilment that other spy cinema seems scared to tackle at the moment. This film has swagger, violence and sex in abundance. And while that might be a bit much for some more conservative cinemagoers, the vast majority seemed to love it (ourselves included). If this list was entitled 10 Most Fun British Films Of 2015, we might just have put this one top. Director Matthew Vaughns British production company Marv Films produced the film with help from 20th Century Fox, resulting in a movie that has a very British sense of humour coupled with the action budget of a Hollywood blockbuster. So you get smarmy one liners and an array of colour head explosions. What more could you possibly want? Some strong central performances never go amiss, and thats what Brits Colin Firth, Mark Strong and Taron Egerton bring to the table. Whether youve seen this already one or not, its well worth digging out over the holidays.
