10 Best (Canon) Star Wars Novels Every Fan Must Read

6. Canto Bight

Star Wars Canto Bight

One genre of storytelling it might shock you to learn is not often seen in the Star Wars EU is the anthology story or novella collection. A collection of smaller stories that centre around a central theme. There are only a few, and one of the best is Star Wars: Canto Bight.

While many still debate the quality of the Canto Bight segments in The Last Jedi, it was still a fascinating world ripe for exploration in extended universe fiction. So when the call went out to come up with short stories centering around the ritzy casino city, four famous writers came up with their own short stories taking place entirely within it.

These writers were Saladin Ahmed, Rae Carson, Mira Grant, and John Jackson Miller. The stories of Canto Bight are those of people down on their luck, looking for their next big break, and hoping that the city will grant them what they're looking for. And to some degree or another, the city just eats them up and spits them right back out. These aren't the most epic Star Wars stories, not even close. But if you want some of the most intimate world building in the entire franchise, pick up this collection.
