Sure the ring bearer only had one task throughout the trilogy, but it was easily the hardest of all of the Fellowship.
Frodo is not one of the best characters in the trilogy but he is a very humble and nice guy. His biggest strength is his unbound bravery that comes from that fact. He is one of the few chosen ones who is one voluntarily. No one told him to put himself on a dangerous journey; he just spoke up knowing literally no one else can. It is only then where the others stepped up too, ready to die inspired by the little guy’s courage.
The ring exposes the corruption within people’s hearts, and we know that it can only take a second for it to take effect. It says a lot about Frodo that it barely changes him. But it feels like hell every second he is in contact with it for miles and miles while making sure no one else will take it or kill him.
Lord of the Rings is about the little people that can’t wield a sword, fire arrows, or cast magic, but still found it in themselves to risk their lives and carry the world on their shoulders. That is why it is so satisfying when the whole Kingdom kneeled.
All of those ambitious special effects and it is still predominantly about the human element.
