10 Best Comic Storylines Featuring The Birds Of Prey Characters
5. Gotham Central: Half A Life
Another Greg Rucka story, this time showcasing Renee Montoya before she assumed the identity of the Question. Given that there’s already a few new characters to be introduced in the movie (including Montoya herself), it’s likely her Question storyline will be shelved in the narrative screenwriter Christina Hodson builds for moviegoers.
With that in mind, Montoya’s pre-Question arcs might offer a better insight into the character Rosie Perez is going to play. That’s where Gotham Central: Half A Life comes into play. The premise is similar to Cry For Blood, in that it sees Montoya implicated in a murder plot, but the way the tales unfold is completely different.
While Cry For Blood explores the loneliness and isolation of Huntress, Montoya has always been a company woman, loyal to the GCPD. She sees that it’s flawed, but ultimately has faith in the system. When her fellow officers suspect her and turn against her, all that comes crumbling down.
Added to that, she’s outed as a lesbian and is shunned by everyone around her. It’s not as heavy on the action sequences as others here, but it’s heartfelt, introspective and a must read for any Montoya fans.
