10 Best Coming-Of-Age Movies Of The Decade
5. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower (2012)
Based on a 1999 novel of the same name, Stephen Chbosky’s adaptation of his own story somehow manages to improve upon the source material.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower follows Charlie Kelmeckis, a shy, introverted teenager in his first year of high school. Though the premise isn’t very remarkable, the movie is brimming with heart thanks to the three central performances from Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, and Emma Watson.
Despite the relatively short runtime, Chbosky’s script carries plenty of character depth, which in turn allows each of these talented actors to showcase an impressive range.
The soundtrack is also commendable, as it blends seamlessly into the narrative. As great as the book is, seeing how the central characters connect through music is one of the better aspects of the movie.
Though The Perks of Being a Wallflower is set in the 1990s, the depth of the story and the characters is absolutely timeless.
