After making an impressive debut ten years ago on Layer Cake, Matthew Vaughn went on to direct the little-remembered romantic fantasy movie, Stardust. Entrusted with a budget more than ten times the size of Layer Cakes, Vaughn had his first shot at tackling a blockbuster project, adapting the original comic/novel from the ever-esteemed Neil Gaiman, and he did it absolutely brilliantly. Led by Charlie Cox and Claire Danes, with Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, and Mark Strong in tow, the ensemble cast is fantastic, the effects are utterly convincing, and Ilan Eshkeris score is beautiful. The film marked the first in a long line of successful collaborations between Vaughn and co-writer Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class). And to top it all off, theres even a short appearance from Clark Kent himself, Henry Cavill, making his DC comic book movie debut.
Movie / TV enthusiast with a DVD and Blu-ray collection bigger than I'd care to admit. If anyone is offering creative / furniture solutions to house them, I'm all ears.
