10 Best Disaster Movies Of All Time

3. Armageddon

Following on from Independence Day, there came a run of visual effect masterclasses. None, however, were better than Michael Bay's 1998 epic, Armageddon.

Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, and Liv Tyler are the star attractions in a disaster movie come love story that tears on the heartstrings for more than one reason. Besides those three names, the cast is well stuffed out with further Hollywood big-guns such as Owen Wilson and Steve Buscemi.

Everything that comes with Armageddon just seems to work. From the brilliant special effects to the story of heartbreak as Grace agonisingly watches on from mission control, Armageddon has everything you want in a good disaster movie.

Fittingly, it also has one of the most poignant soundtracks of its time to go alongside it. Aerosmith's expert performance of the beautifully written, 'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing', complements the film perfectly.

There can, therefore, be little argument that Armageddon isn't a true giant of the disaster genre.
