10 Best Disney Live-Action Movie Remakes Ranked Worst To Best
2. Beauty And The Beast
Until Toy Story 3 came along, Beauty And The Beast was the only animated film nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Some legacy to live up to then. So, the question became, could Bill Condon take that and recapture the original's magic in his remake of arguably THE Disney classic?
Why yes, yes he could as it turned out. Beauty And The Beast retained all that the original held dear, the magic that had the Beast cured for turning away a witch, and the sharp intelligence of Belle. Of all the Dinsey Princesses to be adapted into the modern era, Belle was the most inspirational for young women everywhere. She isn't a damsel in distress and she has no intention of marrying because it suits a man, which meant that Emma Watson was perfect for the role.
She brought her charm and intellect to Belle, as well as her fierce femininity. Emma Watson stopped being Hermione Granger and became Belle in the eyes of so many around the world.
Dan Stevens's own role as the Beast was a mixture of anger and calm, which suited the role down to the ground as he did the Beast justice. However, Luke Evans's Gaston is something else, his effortless good-looks and cruel nature were inhabited by Evans perfectly, and the song 'Gaston' was simply brilliant.
All in all Beauty And The Beast was a huge success for Disney, it made a huge $1.2 billion at the box-office and has spawned a Gaston and LeFou spin-off series with both Luke Evans and Josh Gad returning.
