10 Best Documentary Films To Watch On Disney+

9. African Cats

Directed by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey, this film was released theatrically for Earth Day in 2011. It is narrated by Samuel L. Jackson in the US version, and Patrick Stewart in the UK version.

The film, thanks to these ticket sales, translated into 50,000 acres of land saved in Kenya.

The film was made in the Maasai Mara Nature Reserve, Kenya. This reserve is one of the last spaces where Lions, Cheetahs and Leopards still live in relatively close proximity and in large numbers.

The film strives to bring awareness not just to the stories of these large cats, but to fund the continued preservation of these areas. As part of the marketing for the film, the Blu-Ray/Download combo was released on the same day as the Blu-Ray/Download combo for The Lion King as well.

The film aims to imbue these creatures with majesty and it is both a valiant attempt, and falls a little short of achieving it. Certainly, the subjects themselves need no help in that regard - something the film does depict admirably. The biggest criticism of the film might be that it is not as big as the cats it presents.

That said, the cinematography is stunning and the music is suitably stirring.
