10 Best Documentary Films To Watch On Disney+

7. The Pixar Story

The Pixar Story may initially seem like the propaganda wing of Disney working in overdrive to espouse the merits of the Pixar Animation wing and yet, while that may or may not be the case, the fact that the facts reported are true make this one of the more enjoyable success stories.

The film features interviews with John Lasseter, Bor Igner, Michael Eisner, Edwin Catmull, George Lucas and Steve Jobs, among many others. It depicts a story of men who refused to accept their limitations with conventional storytelling, and attempted to adapt to a new medium.

The film is both lauding and wistful, while it pays respect to the hand drawn animation that inspired it all. One of the things that comes across most clearly is the passion that these men felt for their craft. One of the most notable stories is that of the genesis of Toy Story 2.

It had originally been commissioned and envisiaged by Disney as a straight-to-DVD affair, like so many sequels before it. John Lasseter, already on thin ice with his family for the amount of time he spent at the office, postponed a holiday to work like crazy to overhaul and recreate the film from the ground up.

His efforts, along with those of the Pixar team, ensured a film that matches the first for quality, while still managing to be something new.

The film shines a light on those who went out of their way to see something new and put in the hours to make that thing a reality.
