8. Turner & Hooch (1989)

Lady And The Tramp
Touchstone Pictures

When Tom Hanks as the leading man and a dog as the secondary character come together as a partnership in a movie, you can somehow how already tell that Turner and Hooch will be one emotional ride.

Scott Turner is a police investigator but is bored of the unchallenging nature of his job and wants to relocate to a place with “real” cases. A man named Amos Reed is murdered and the only witness is Reed’s dog, which Scott must take care of and use in order to help find the killer. The connection between Turner and Hooch starts off rocky as his new partner in crime-solving often gets in the way of work. But a bond between the unconventional pairing gradually grows, eventually becoming a tender relationship.

Yes, it’s a buddy cop drama but it’s played out nicely with a good plot, a strong core, good humour and fantastic lead characters.
