10 Best Fan Theories For 2017's Biggest Movies

1. Get Out – It’s A Sequel To Being John Malkovich

Admittedly, this theory does hang on a couple of rather tenuous links between Jordan Peele’s hit horror Get Out and Spike Jonze’s 1999 comedy Being John Malkovich – namely, that they both star Catherine Keener and centre around transplanting people into other people’s bodies – but down the rabbit hole we go regardless.

Being John Malkovich ends with Keener’s character Maxine raising her daughter Emily with Lotte (Cameron Diaz) conceived whilst the latter was inhabiting Malkovich’s body. Unfortunately, Lotte’s vindictive ex-husband Craig is trapped inside the daughter’s psyche after he missed his chance to permanently reside inside the mind of John Malkovich.

Fast-forward a few years and Maxine, Lotte and a now grown up Emily are looking for new mind transplant opportunities and meet Roman Armitage – the Get Out antagonist who founded the cult that transplants old, white people brains into younger, fitter black people. Maxine changes her name to Missy and Emily to Rose while Lotte has her brain transplanted into Roman’s son Dean Armitage’s body.

They then masquerade as a stereotypical liberal white family while carrying out the cult’s nefarious plans for immortality. Meanwhile, Emily/Rose is still inhabited by the nasty Craig which explains why she grows up to be the kind of sociopathic bitch who is complicit in her parents’ evil doings.

Before you point out the numerous holes in this theory, know that it comes with Jordan Peele’s seal of approval. Perhaps we could see a more blatant Get Out-Being John Malkovich crossover in the not-too-distant future?
