10 Best Fan Theories For 2017's Biggest Movies
5. Logan – Deadpool Is Based On The X-Men Comics We See In Logan
Trying to understand the X-Men timeline is like trying to
make sense of flat-pack furniture instructions – virtually impossible – and
it’s been especially hard to figure out where meta-fest Deadpool and its
forthcoming sequel fit into the whole thing. But thanks to a little Easter egg
in Logan and a Reddit user going by the name of DToccs we might have a
plausible theory.
In Logan, we see the titular mutant chastise his young protégé Laura when he finds some of her X-Men comic books and tell her the events within them are majorly exaggerated. Within these in-universe comics, Colossus appears a lot bigger than he does in the X-Men movies – in fact, he’s much more similar to the Colossus we saw in Deadpool.
In Deadpool, we also meet Negasonic Teenage Warhead who along with Colossus asks the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ to join the X-Men yet DToccs points out that if we take Logan’s assertion that no mutants have been born since the early 2000s, Negasonic Teenage Warhead is too young to exist.
This led DToccs to conclude that the Deadpool movies are actually based on the comics that appear within Logan’s in-universe, which explains its exaggerated tone and inconsistencies within the X-Men timeline. Effectively, Deadpool is a movie within the movie that is Logan.
