10 Best Female Characters In Sci-Fi Movie History

1. Ripley - Alien

The Matrix Trinity
Fox

When it comes to creating powerful protagonists in film franchises, Ripley is an excellent example of what to do. She is just as synonymous with the Alien franchise as the dreaded Xenomorph itself, and that is because she is the perfect eye for the audience in the series.

Her progression captures the evolution of the audience's relationship with the films. When starting you know very little about the creatures and feel afraid but prepared to see it through. The second time visiting this franchise, you are more accustomed, and you know what to expect, just like Ripley, you aren't as afraid of the creatures but know their danger. Then the subsequent films devolve into mundanity, but Ripley at least remains consistently confident and engaging, even if her time in resurrection is a little too goofy.

Sigourney Weaver took this role and made her one of the best Sci-Fi protagonists in the film industry, regardless of gender. Her position surviving against the awful onslaught of the Xenomorphs is what makes the series so great. It is no surprise that the further the franchise strays away from her, the less fun it becomes.
