10 Best Films About Pandemics
2. Outbreak (1995)
Halfway to being the best pandemic movie of all time, Outbreak switches from grounded to ridiculous in the second act.
After a disease that crosses from animal to human (seems familiar) begins to infect a small town in the United States, Dustin Hoffman is called in to be the hero of the film.
Originating as a disease spread from an illegally imported Capuchin, the virus quickly spreads through a small town on the Californian coast. Showing the extremes to which the antagonist will go to eradicate and then attempt to harness the disease is a rare villainous turn for the ageless Morgan Freeman. We are shown the lengths that some will go when pushed and quarantined as well as a cerebral if at times supervillain-esque showing by Freeman.
Along with the ensemble cast, Hoffman turns in a great performance as usual, leading the cast into creating what is definitely a must watch of the pandemic genre.
