10 Best Films Of 2020 (So Far)

6. Bacurau

Bacurau 2020
Vitrine Filmes

Destined to go down as a future cult classic, Bacurau is fluid in terms of genre, starting as a low key drama and escalating until the action becomes genuinely a bit surreal.

Following a town deal with the death of its beloved matriarch, the film expertly handles the different dynamics and personalities that make up the setting of Bacurau. The place is so vibrant and the sense of community so strong that there's a joy simply to be had in spending time there.

Strange things are happening though which cuts that meandering stay short, and between the town disappearing from maps and strangers passing through, there's a taste of disaster is in the air.

Also, Udo Kier is in this an he's absolutely bonkers. I don't even know if he realises what film he's in. I'm partly inclined to believe he just decided what his character would do on a whim, and the filmmakers had to account for it on the day. He's having the time of his life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
