Cube is a 1997 Canadian horror movie that sits somewhere between Saw and The Crystal Maze.

A group of strangers wake up in a mysterious room, with zero idea where they are or how they got there. The find out that they have been kidnapped and placed into the titular structure, which is filled with deadly traps which they must overcome in order to escape.

We catch a glimpse of the Cube's nasty work before the opening credits even begin.

A man named Alderson wakes up alone in the Cube and wanders his way around trying to get out. This adventurous spirit is what eventually costs him his life.

He enters a room that is seemingly empty, until it very much isn't. A wire-thin metal mesh swings upwards from the floor, slicing through Alderson like a knife through soft cheese. He collapses to the floor, diced up into chunks.

It's an extremely visceral kill and one that really does come out of nowhere. It sets the stage perfectly for the rest of the movie and made anyone watching feel parts of their body they'd never felt before.
