10 Best Found Footage Zombie Horror Movies
4. Savageland
Some of the movies on this list will make you scream, and others will make you laugh. This one, however, will make you sick to your stomach, and not because of the blood and guts.
2015s Savageland is a mockumentary zombie flick that explores a fictional massacre in a US/Mexico border town. It follows as the one survivor (a Mexican immigrant named Francisco Salazar) is accused of being responsible, despite photographic evidence painting a much more horrifying picture of what happened.
It should come as no surprise from that description that this film is a gruelling take on the xenophobia of the United States. It delivers a long hard look at the real-life terror of racism towards immigrants and uses the zombie genre to pick apart some severe issues.
Everyone is used to seeing zombies eat humans, but watching talking head interviews where people scrutinise a man as sympathetic as Salazar purely because of his nationality is way more painful than getting bitten by a zombie.
Savageland is a powerful watch, and it's also a movie that doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. You can check out the whole feature-length film for free on YouTube, so don't miss out on this uncomfortable (but worthwhile) watch.
