10 Best Found Footage Zombie Horror Movies
2. One Cut Of The Dead
If you've been on this site a lot or checked out the WhatCulture Horror YouTube channel, then you're probably very used to hearing about this movie. Still, it'll stop getting talked about when it stops being so damn good.
One Cut of the Dead follows a director (Higurashi) and his crew as they film a low-budget zombie movie, only to find themselves getting attacked by real zombies. But that's only the beginning, as you soon find that everything you've seen was a film inside a film.
There's so much to love about this horror-comedy hybrid flick, but one of the main points is how it propels the found-footage genre forward. The movie only features roughly 30 minutes of found-footage and then switches style to give you a clear eye into what you've just seen. This compellingly strips back the subgenre and explores it from a meta-perspective.
You'll also get plenty to enjoy here if you're just looking for a simple, entertaining ride. The comedy is fantastic, and there's a solid emotional hook, thanks to the likeability of the lead character. Watching as he scrambles to pull the film together, dealing with difficult actors, producers and even his own family, is sure to leave you in fits.
Not since Shaun of the Dead have zombies and comedy blended so well together.
