That's right; it's a hat-trick for REC! If the remake (Quarantine) is good and the sequel (REC 2) is great, then the original is phenomenal. It's easy to call it the best found-footage zombie horror movie ever made, and it even stands as one of the best found-footage flicks, period.

REC is a Spanish-language film that follows a reporter and her cameraman as they accompany a crew of firemen to an apartment building. What starts as a typical shoot for their television show turns into a nightmare after a terrifying infection turns the residents into zombie-like creatures.

There's so much to praise about this movie, as it's a masterclass in telling a story in this format. Thanks to the camera's limited vision, everything feels tight and claustrophobic, making even the dreaded overuse of shaky cam feel appropriate. It's also packed with huge scares that will haunt you well after the credits roll. This is especially true of the pants-wetting final moments.

On top of that, you've got the horrifying monsters, the solid performances, the stellar sound design, and more. Overall, this movie makes zombies and found-footage proud, proving that they can pair together like bacon and eggs - although you might want to avoid eating anything whilst watching this one.
