10 Best Friendships In Horror Movies
1. Ripley And Newt - Aliens
Okay, so admittedly there has been some debate since its release all the way back in 1986 as to whether Aliens is in actuality a bonafide horror movie. The answer isn’t exactly definitive, but one thing that is solemnly cemented is the fact that in no other science-fiction movie had a more wholesome pairing of ill-fated companions.
The maternal bond forged between Ellen Ripley and Newt comes shortly after something brutally massacres her family offscreen. Ripley, who is currently excavating the premises at the time stumbles across a frightened little girl. Through the flow of events, their relationship thrives in such an organic way that actual mothers and daughters may be a little envious of the chemistry they share on screen.
What makes it even more endearing is that they are without doubt the missing pieces of one another’s puzzles. As Ripley awakens 57 years into the future, she quickly comes to realise that her own singular offspring has long since been deceased, with Newt slotting into the void naturally.
The only iniquity their relationship entails is the heart-shattering prologue to the film's sequel: one that sees the loveable Newt unceremoniously killed offscreen in-between.
