10 Best Hard Rock Soundtrack Albums
5. Jonah Hex
When it comes to the golden age of superhero movies, Jonah Hex doesn't really stand out as one of the all time classics. While the original version of the DC character was certainly dark and gritty for his time, Josh Brolin had a lot more work to do before eventually turning in a great comic book performance as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. For as forgettable as the movie itself might seem, the actual soundtrack was punching way above its weight class.
Compared to the usual hard rock mixtape style of soundtrack, the metal titans Mastodon were actually brought in to bring their prog metal stylings to the table. Being just an EP, this little compilation doesn't waste a second of time, with only a handful of tracks and a virtual sonic juggernaut in between them. Not skimping out just because of the soundtrack filler, the fills by Brann Dailor on Death March feel like they are about to stomp all over your face, all while the licks of Brent Hinds and Bill Kelliher play circles around each other.
Given that Mastodon had already contributed to Aqua Team Hunger Force by this point, this huge step up was a sign of great things to come. If only we could get them in another film classic, maybe these guys have the potential to put even the most hardened of movie soundtracks to shame.
