10 Best Hard Rock Soundtrack Albums

6. Metallica: Through the Never

Not many concert films are heralded as classics in the pantheon of cinema. While there are exceptions like the Last Waltz by the Band or even Shine a Light from the Rolling Stones, you need to do a little something extra if you want to keep the audience entertained beyond just playing your regular show in a theater. Then again, does Metallica ever really skimp out when it comes to raw aggression?

Being a hybrid of both movie and concert film, Through the Never is made up of different pieces of live footage of the thrash legends while we see Dane DeHaan go through what feels like a war zone at the same time. Though the story does end up being secondary to the live show a lot of the time, the setlist for the night runs as a virtual greatest hits package from Metallica, going from their thrash roots to some of the more radio-friendly stuff that they made in the '90s.

Compared to just your average show, this feels a lot more intimate, as you see bombs going off as James Hetfield tears through every riff. Alongside the phenomenal performance, the real draw of it is to see Metallica's collaboration with the audience, whether it be the chant of 'MASTER!' in Master of Puppets or the singalong ending of the Memory Remains. While Metallica have been no strangers to more gutsy artistic moves, this is one of those rare instances where it paid off in spades.
