10 Best Harry Potter Characters Who Only Appeared In One Movie

3. Quirinius Quirell

Hogwarts really needed a better screening process for Defence Against the Dark Arts teachers. Almost every single new staff member had some dark secret, and this was all started with Quirinius Quirrell.

His wolf-in-sheep's-clothing persona and loyalty to He Who Must Not Be Named set a benchmark for the coming villains, and structure of the franchise.

Before the reveal of his malicious intentions, Quirrell was an absolute highlight of Philosopher's Stone. Ian Hart did a brilliant job of matching the cheesy and over-the-top tone of the flick with deliciously quirky line deliveries and a goofy performance.

Hell, the "troll in the dungeon" scene is still considered one of the most iconic moments in the entire franchise.

Re-watching the Philosopher's Stone with the knowledge that this Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher was secretly harbouring Voldemort beneath his turban makes his whole performance all the more frightening. The character's pathetic and goofy personality made him a perfect target for the Dark Lord and proved how the weak will always seek the powerful.

Quirrell's demise at the climax of Philosopher's Stone was very fitting, and he still ranks as one of the Wizarding World's most unique villains.
