2. The Peanut Butter Falcon
The Peanut Butter Falcon is a comedy/drama written and directed by Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwarz. The film stars Shia LaBeouf, Zack Gottsagen, Dakota Johnson, John Hawkes, Bruce Dern, Jon Bernthal, and Thomas Haden Church. It initially premiered at South by Southwest in March and was given a limited theatrical premiere in August.
Interestingly, the movie wasn't an immediate success, but it became a sleeper hit and rising to become the highest-grossing independent film of 2019, and the critics definitely loved it.
The movie revolves around a young man with Down syndrome who befriends a fisherman on the run after he escapes from an assisted living facility. The two quickly become friends, but as their friendship blossoms, they must remain on the run, as a social worker continues to track them wherever they go.
Thus far, The Peanut Butter Falcon has been nominated for and won numerous awards and all are truly deserved.
