Serving as more of a horror mystery, the film relies on thoughtful plotting to keep the viewer engaged over visceral thrills.
Routine school activities are masterfully filled with a sense of impending dread. Every moment is creepily atmospheric. You realise every plot twist was hinted at with an ending that was hidden in plain sight all along. Like a clever little puzzle, The Blackcoat's Daughter succeeds in being both throughout-provoking and scare-inducing.
