10 Best Horror Anthology Movies
7. Black Sabbath
Although this movie was a box-office bomb, it has garnered a reputation for being a classic piece of horror cinema and was even named the 82nd best horror film of all time by a Time Out poll. It's safe to say that Black Sabbath is an excellent piece of cinema horror history, especially for the anthology movie set-up.
The film tells three distinct horror stories and is hosted by the legendary Boris Karloff. As can be expected, the horror icon's performance is a wonderful amount of fun, proving why he is still remembered to this day as a pillar of the genre.
Each of the stories spins an intense and macabre tale. The first is a tense account of a call-girl who's former pimp has just been released from prison and comes seeking revenge. Next comes a monstrous story of a family torn apart by their relative - played by Karloff - who has become a vampire-like creature. Finally comes the tale of a nurse who steals a sapphire ring from a cadaver, and soon finds herself in a heap of supernatural trouble.
These stories are all full of early horror charm and are incredibly well-acted. While not all of the effects hold up too well, it's still a gorgeously macabre sight, and the atmosphere will have you on the edge of your seat.
