10 Best Horror Anthology Movies
8. The Mortuary Collection
Shudder has been an absolute blessing for horror fans. Popular streaming sites tend to neglect horror content, they include them, but rarely as a major feature. Thankfully, this pure horror-centric streaming service came along and gave fans of the spookier side to life a great chance to fully indulge in their fascinations.
The Mortuary Collection is one of the best examples of Shudder's original programming. It's a brilliant experience thanks to its wickedly clever set-up, incredibly goofy tone and enjoyable moralistic shorts.
Audiences are introduced to Clancy Brown playing an eccentric mortician who recalls several gruesome and fantastic stories with a young lady looking for employment at his morgue. Of course, Brown thoroughly chews the scenery in the most loveable of ways, milking every moment and making this framing device just as impressive as the stories themselves.
Still, the shorts are utterly compelling, as they are full of typical self-indulgent horror fun, but have surprisingly nuanced lessons which fill them with purpose. The film also ends perfectly, with the dynamic between Brown and the young lady rounding the story out in a nice little bow.
If you've got a Shudder subscription, then you don't want to miss this one.
